In the afternoon we got these black boots, with steeled toe caps, to wear when we're going to the Terminal. We got there by bus and met Dennis, who was going to show us around the Terminal and explain how the system there works. Apart from the boots, we also got these fancy yellow jackets and a temporary pass so we were allowed to go there. While getting these passes from the ID office, the guy working there also lived in the Netherlands for a few years and he shared quite a lot about himself. After that, we had to go through customs. After that, the tour started.
Dennis took us to all the floors, all different levels of the bagging system, like the storage and the 'problem bags'. Some parts were like rollercoasters and the bag could travel with a speed of 10 meters per second, the same speed as Usain Bolt.
We learned about the way the bag was transported and walked along the whole journey which gave us a good impression of what exactly happens after you drop a bag at the checking-in.
This was truly a mesmerizing experience and Dennis told us that not many people were allowed to go there, not even people that work in different parts of the airport, so we were really lucky that we've got to experience this. If we had more time we also could have gone to Terminal 3, where Vanderlande is currently building the latest technologies for the terminal. In Terminal 3, they are using robots for the baggage system, the first in the UK.
What I really liked about this tour, was how enthousiastic and happy Dennis was that he could do this work and inform us about it. What he liked about his job was that every day, you see new people, new things happen and that he often sees famous people such as Rihanna, Cameron Diaz and even Tom Cruise, who also shooted parts of a movie in the airport. He was kind and wanted to make sure he didn't bore us to death, which we were far from apart.
In the evening we met up with Noa's father, Andre van den Brink and went out for dinner to a nearby pub called The Pheasant Inn. The food was absolutely delicious and we went
